A residential district from the period of promoterism

>> Bonn's Southern Quarter
Today, Bonn’s southern quarter is recognized and taken care of as a well-maintained residential district from the times of the last empire.
Bonn’s southern quarter, a residential district from the period of promoterism located south of Hofgarten and Poppelsdorfer Allee, is a preciousness of European level. As they were almost untouched by war and rehabilitation mania, most of the grand and elegant houses are maintained as they were built between 1860 and the beginning of the 1st World War. Their facades reflect the bourgeois self-confidence of the “fin de siècle”. Behind the wrought-iron fences of the front gardens with the leaves of the chestnut trees they impress with their merlons and other ornamental details. What is quite admirably is the town-planning discipline of the block system construction and the strong green growing in the courtyards and on the streets. This is where the elevated middle-classes lived: officials, professors, salesmen, doctors, attorneys, rich pensioners, and where numerous student bars and pubs established inviting for a nightly visit to the southern quarter.
