Ludwig van Beethoven’s mother, Maria Magdalena van Beethoven from Ehrenbreitstein, née Keverich, widow of the late Mr. Leyn, was laid to rest at the old cemetery. Due to her illness, young Beethoven
interrupted his stay in Vienna after a couple of days and returned to Bonn to his mother’s death-bed. A plain flag stone at the grave, which was rediscovered at first in 1932, reminds of her and her big son Ludwig, whose words can be read on it: “She was such a good and amiable mother to me, she was my best friend”.
